Gila Bend to Cottonwood

We left Gila Bend the next morning, after taking pics of the metal quail sculptures in the front by the office, and went to Beautiful Downtown Gila Bend (about two minutes away) where we got more pictures of the UFO restaurant and motel, and also took some pics of the front of a store that sells yet more metal yard sculptures. Fun!
We went back to Deer Canyon to see the petroglyphs (this time it was open) and stopped by Del Taco for lunch, which made me very happy; it was the one thing I really wanted to do on my birthday the day before, and for good reasons, it didn't happen then...but it was lovely today. Then we drove north to Cordez Junction, where we got off the freeway and visited Arcosanti. And then we went to Cottonwood, to check into a real motel (the Verde Valley Inn, yay! it was inexpensive and nice and the people who ran it were great.) and meet up with Diana and Kitty for dinner.

It was interesting driving north of Phoenix; as soon as we got past Black Rock Canyon (where we had stayed Sunday night) the whole landscape changed, and the cactus were gone.

And here are the pictures of what Diana and Kitty were up to since the last time we saw them, Saturday night in Lake Havasu.

Then they went to Petrified Forest National Park, which also includes the Painted Desert.
